Missing something, but not sure what. Reaction to trace sugars in my diet still, from A1, and ketchup and stuff? Need more veges? Missing grassfed beef?

1 lb ground grassfed beef

EXERCISE: walk 1 hour, very hot, feel tired and wiped out
WEIGHT: 289
BLOOD SUGAR: 93
KETONES: Trace

EVENTS/MOOD/ALERTNESS: OK I guess. Felt good this morning for having lots of sleep, but here it is 11PM and I'm still up, but tire. I've been reading so much about dopamine lately. Now I'm reading some stuff about serotonin. It's so confusing. It seems like you can attribute every human behavior to a neurotransmitter like dopamine, and then you realize that serotonin is a whole 'nother world, and it seems when you read more that everything is dependent on serotonin. Confusing. Guess I have to hope that exercise, paleo eating, supplements omega3 can help my brain sort it out. I might buy some L-Tryptophan to cover my bases, along with the L-Tyrosine to make dopamine.

ScienceDaily: Belly Fat May Drive Inflammatory Processes Associated With Disease

ScienceDaily: Belly Fat May Drive Inflammatory Processes Associated With Disease

Science Daily — As scientists learn more about the key role of inflammation in diabetes, heart disease and other disorders, new research from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis suggests that fat in the belly may be an important promoter of that inflammation.

Excess fat is known to be associated with disease, but now the researchers have confirmed that fat cells inside the abdomen are secreting molecules that increase inflammation. It's the first evidence of a potential mechanistic link between abdominal fat and systemic inflammation.

For years, scientists have been aware of a relationship between disease risk and excess belly fat. "Apple-shaped" people, who carry fat in the abdomen, have a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes and other problems than "pear-shaped" people, who tend to store fat in the hips and thighs. Too much abdominal fat is associated with a defect in the body's response to insulin.

ScienceDaily: Fructose-sweetened Beverages Increases Risk Of Obesity In Rats

ScienceDaily: Fructose-sweetened Beverages Increases Risk Of Obesity In Rats

In this study, rats receiving fructose-containing beverages presented a pathology similar to metabolic syndrome, which in the short term causes lipid accumulation (hypertriglyceridemia) and fatty liver, and at later stages hypertension, resistance to insulin, diabetes and obesity.

"The fructose in fruit has nothing to do with this study," stresses Professor Laguna. "Fruit is healthy and its consumption is strongly recommended. Our study focuses on liquid fructose intake as an addition to the ordinary diet."

[...]

The fructose used to sweeten beverages alters the lipid metabolism in the liver and, according to the authors, represents a calorie overload to which the body’s metabolism is unable to adapt. Specifically, fructose increases fat synthesis in the liver and reduces its degradation through action on a specific nuclear receptor (PPARa), which controls fatty acid ß-oxidation. “The most novel finding,” says Laguna, “is that this molecular mechanism is related to an impairment in the leptin signal. Leptin is a hormone that plays a key role in the body’s energy control; among its peripheral actions, it accelerates fat oxidation in the liver and reduces its synthesis.”

KETONES: none

EVENTS: feeling like the coffee thing is tough. Not sure why I'm doing it. Guess I hoped I might sleep better. I'm starting to think I may go back on caffeine. A bridge too far? God I feel terrible in the morning. Like I'm drunk, staggering, banging my head on things, almost falling down. Serious dopamine shortage? I may come back to this one. Read a ton of stuff yesterday about the effects of withdrawal, and how serious they can be. Not sure I'm ready for this one right now. Kinda freaky. I know coffee increases dopamine, and people with dopamine deficiency have motor coordination problems. Lack of coffee causing motor discoordination? It's only in the morning at least. I'm going back to coffee for now. Maybe I'll just try to cut down a little.

The veges help my BM's out quite a bit, btw. I feel like I'm fatter the last few days. My stomach looks bigger in the mirror, although my weight is down. Not sure why. Water retention? Psychological?

well...

Doing okay. Getting some positive feedback. Enjoying food, sometimes want a little variety. Some backsliding, but that's okay. I'm looking at long term changes. I see new research all the time. One that just came out said that people who make alot of insulin lose five times as much weight with a low carb diet. Also, omega3 good for eyes, and muscles. Lifted weights twice now and enjoyed it. Falling behind with posting here every day though. Feeling still scattered and sometimes dont' know what to do, but I've been making moves to get back into the dating scene. Hope I don't let the first disappointment or humiliation turn me off the track.

Fat Burning Omega 3 - Euthenist.org

Fat Burning Omega 3 - Euthenist.org

Eating a diet rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) omega-3 fatty acids may help prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease later in life. Researchers at the University Of California Irvine (UCI) used genetically engineered mice for their experiments.

© BestSyndication.com

The scientists discovered that a protein, called tau, that leads to the development of neurofibrillary tangles in the brain was slowed by DHA. These tangles are one of two signature brain lesions of Alzheimer’s disease. DHA also reduced the other lesion caused by the protein beta amyloid, which can clump in the brain and form plaques.

This is not the first study to suggest a benefit from the fatty acid. Researchers previously discovered that DHA may have a therapeutic affect. The new research has found that DHA can delay the onset of the Alzheimer’s disease.

“We are greatly excited by these results, which show us that simple changes in diet can positively alter the way the brain works and lead to protection from Alzheimer’s disease pathology,” said Frank LaFerla, professor of neurobiology and behavior and co-author of the study.

Fluoride

Just reading stuff lately on how bad fluoride is. I was always kind of anti- water filtering, but there seems to be alot going on with fluoride. Most of Europe quit doing it. Fluoride calcifies the pineal gland, which is involved with wakefulness, which is something I'm concerned with. Not sure what to do about it. I know fluoride is poisonous for cats, but we give them fluoridated water! Perhaps buy bottled water? Or a reverse osmosis filter?

Slow burn (tm) workout at health club
did one set, 10 secs up, 10 secs down, for each body part. Hard! Sore next day!
Will try to do this once a week. Thinking about getting a trainer- there's a place in town for this. For this kind of workout, a trainer would help. Muscles are sore.

EVENTS: slept late, taking it easy. Then buddy called and wanted to hang out. Afterwards we went to bar, and I had too many beers. Up too late. Had a good time, after being a hermit all weekend, by why get drunk on sunday night? Dumb. Sometime's I'm my own worst enemy. I guess I felt like I could do whatever I wanted to reward myself for working out. When I hang out with this one friend is when I usually drink. Not to blame him, but I really need to anticipate this and plan better. Plan an escape route!

MOOD: decent. Nice day, enjoyed the workout. Feeling good. Again, feeling more clear headed. Seems like with my procrastination, I still do it, but it's easier for me to determine what's really important. I also don't fret about all the details and ideas that pop in to my head and overwhelm me. I'll try to write it down, or think if it's really important it will come back to me. Want to get more organized using paper than computer. I heard that people with ADD are more visual. I put up more clocks at home, and got this time-timer visual timer. I also bought the invisible clock, and it's a beeper thing that I can set up to vibrate every 10 minutes. It reminds me to look at the time and keep moving- stay on task. It helps. Interesting stuff.

Just bought and read "slow burn" by the Eades and some trainer guy. Looks good. I always liked weights anyway. This is similar to the bodybuilder Mike Metzer(sp?), who argued for short, intense, heavy, slow movement weightlifting. I'd like to try this again, but I don't have room for free weights. Of couse, if I only work out once a week, I could assembe the bench and move furniture to workout.
